Australia is Projected to be Short on 370k Digital Professionals by 2026: See the Full Report!

Australia is facing a huge shortage of more than 370,000 skilled digital professionals by 2026, driven by the escalating demand for digital skills. The transformative impact of technology on our lifestyles, work practices, and education has elevated the necessity of digital skills across diverse sectors.

The workforce landscape has rapidly evolved in the past five years, witnessing a surge in the need for digital professionals. This trend remains steadfast, with an anticipated 47 percent expansion in the digital expert workforce, equivalent to over 420,000 new professionals, within the 5-year span leading up to 2026.

There is also a growing requirement for workers to possess digital proficiency in most roles and careers, to carry out tasks with effectiveness and efficiency.

Australia’s ability to meet this demand is limited by three challenges

  1. there aren’t enough people training to become digital workers
  2. learners are not being taught the skills that industry demands, resulting in suboptimal training and employment outcomes
  3. the training system isn’t flexible enough to quickly adjust to what industries need.
