Over 1 Million Tech Jobs Predicted in Australia by 2030
The Australian tech industry is determined to have 1.2 million tech workers in the country by 2030. The Minister of Industry and Science, Ed Husic, and Anthony Eisen, from the Tech Council of Australia (TCA), released a report outlining their plan to achieve this goal. By 2030, there will be a shortage of 186,000 tech workers in Australia, so creating 1 million tech jobs by 2025 and 1.2 million by 2030 is crucial. Currently, there is a lack of technical and experienced tech roles, with tech job vacancies being 60% higher than the national average and expected to grow rapidly.
According to the report, Australia will need various tech professionals, including:
- 223,000 digital technicians and workers (including software programmers and cyber security specialists),
- 585,000 technical professionals (including software programmers and cyber security specialists),
- 253,000 creative and commercial workers, and
- 140,000 operational support workers in HR and legal professions, among others.
Five barriers are preventing Australians from accessing tech jobs, including a lack of awareness about available technology jobs, insufficient training programs, and limited talent pools.
The Digital Skills Organisation’s CEO, Patrick Kidd, is enthusiastic about the initiative, aiming to develop digital skills for a technologically connected world.
Kate Pounder, CEO of Tech Council of Australia, emphasizes the importance of collaboration between the government and tech industry to meet their goals, as these tech jobs are critical to the nation’s future and economy.
