Important Update for International Students: Work Restrictions to Return for Student Visa Holders Starting 1st July

We wanted to let you know about some changes to the student visa and graduate visa programs that may affect you. From 1 July 2023, the Australian federal government will re-introduce work restrictions for student visa holders.

So what does this mean for student visa holders?

Student visa holders can work up to 48 hours per fortnight, instead of the current unlimited work hours. It is essential for employers, including managers and supervisors, to be aware of these changes. It has an increase of 20% in the limited hours compared to the pre-pandemic years. That’s 4 hours per week extra than previously allowed.

Temporary Graduate Visa extensions

Additionally, from 1 July 2023, some holders of subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visas will be allowed to stay in Australia longer. The stay period will be extended to four years for bachelor’s degree graduates, five years for master’s degree graduates, and six years for doctoral graduates. The extension of one or two years for eligible students who live, work, and study in regional areas will remain unchanged.

To be eligible for an extension, international bachelor’s and master’s students must have a qualification listed on the eligible qualifications list. All doctoral graduates are eligible for the two-year extension regardless of their qualifications. Extensions will automatically be applied to Temporary Graduate visa holders who have completed a qualification from the approved list or who are applying for a Temporary Graduate visa from 1 July 2023.

Mindroom Innovation is working alongside other universities to assess our courses for credit transfer. Soon, Mindroom will have more university pathways, helping students to continue their bachelor’s degree studies and allowing them to apply for a longer graduate visa.

At Mindroom Innovation, we are proud of the education level we offer to our students. We have raised the bar to ensure we have the best students and they can continue their further education with the best universities. Those changes are great news for those working on completing their Diploma or Advanced Diploma and applying for credit transfer into the universities.
