How to Write Smart Goals That Actually Work
Are you setting yourself up to achieve bigger or better things in 2022?
Setting SMART goals is the first step you can take in achieving this. Yes, the last few years have been tough on most of us but with the right mindset and action steps you do have some control on the direction you want to head, be it on a personal or professional level.
SMART goals stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.
Let’s take a closer look at the SMART goal formula..
S – Specific
In order for a goal to be effective, it needs to be specific.
A specific goal answers questions like:
- What needs to be accomplished?
- What steps need to be taken to achieve it?
- Who will be involved?
M – Measurable
Specificity is a great start, but quantifying your goals (that is, making sure they’re measurable) makes it easier to track progress and know when you’ve reached the finish line.
Think numbers or amounts. How much, how many?
A – Achievable
Goals should be realistic – set yourself up for success by getting real with what is actually possible.
Ask yourself: is your objective something you can reasonably accomplish?
For example: a goal of flying to the moon may not be achievable in 2022 (but never say never)!
R – Relevant
Here’s where you need to think about the big picture.
WHY are you setting the goal that you are setting?
What importance does it have in your life?
T – Time-bound
To properly measure success you need to know when a goal has been reached.
Your goals should have time-related criteria built in, so you know how to stay on track within a timeframe.
By using the formula above to craft each of your goals you are bound to get much better results!
Another VERY important component in pursuing your SMART goals with success is to have powerful emotions behind your actions.
gratitude (for what we have)
belief (in ourselves)
trust (in the process)
and resilience (because life does not always go to plan).
2022 let’s do this! Wishing you much success on your journey.
