From studying ICT50220 – Diploma of Information Technology (Database and Data Management Specialisation) to being selected as a 2026 Mayor’s Student Ambassador, Alfredo’s story is a powerful reminder that growth happens when you say yes to new experiences.
What Is the Mayor’s Student Ambassador Program?
Each year, a select group of students is chosen to represent the City of Gold Coast’s diverse student community. In addition, the selected Student Ambassadors form part of a supportive cohort and gain access to opportunities you won’t find in the classroom.

A Moment of Surprise… and Pride
When Alfredo first received the news, it didn’t feel real.
“At first I was surprised because I didn’t think I was going to be selected, but then I felt so proud and happy to be part of this program.”
That mix of disbelief and pride is something many students can relate to—those moments when your hard work quietly opens doors you didn’t expect.
Stepping Into the Community
For Alfredo, this wasn’t just about recognition—it was about connection.
“I really wanted to get more involved with the city and have a different view of how to be a student on the Gold Coast and engage with the community.”
Since arriving in Australia, Alfredo has actively immersed himself in local life—volunteering, participating in community activities, and embracing everything the Gold Coast has to offer.
Building Confidence Through Experience
What excites him most about the Ambassador program?
“I’m most excited about the events. I’m looking forward to connecting with people whilst showcasing my skills and growing professionally.”
