Why we created the Certificate IV in AI for Business
“It felt like overnight, everyone started using AI as if it had always been part of our daily lives. But as more people began experimenting with it, more questions started to surface.”
Questions like: How does it actually work? Who decides what results users see? Is it accurate? What kind of data can we safely share with AI? And most importantly, what advice can we genuinely trust? Mindroom’s Academic Director, Yoav, and Quality Director, Lina, share the motivation behind creating the Certificate IV in AI for Business.
Seeing the widespread confusion, it became clear that a qualification addressing these topics directly would be extremely beneficial for the workforce. We searched for an existing course on Training.gov.au, Australia’s national training register, but no such qualification existed.
We then decided to apply for course accreditation and develop the program ourselves. The process was extensive and took over 18 months, and involved consultation with dozens of AI and IT experts, industry leaders, and VET professionals. The outcome is the 11358NAT Certificate IV in Artificial Intelligence for Business, which was approved by ASQA in June 2025.
This course is designed for staff responsible for business operations across functional areas such as marketing, finance, human resources, customer service, data analysis, and task automation.
A strong focus is placed on ethical and responsible AI use, ensuring students understand privacy, bias, fairness, and compliance requirements.
Through this course, we aim to answer some of the fundamental questions raised by the emergence of AI and support its adoption by businesses of all sizes.
Completing the course equips students with a clear understanding of AI and how it can improve work processes, enhance outcomes, and guide informed decision-making. Students also learn when to exercise discretion and apply good judgement.
The course is suitable for learners with no prior IT experience and supports a wide range of business-oriented career pathways or further study. It offers a comprehensive introduction to the future state of business and technology.
