The Gold Coast is an absolute treat for sun lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. If love to be part of the hustle and bustle there is also plenty for you on the ‘Goldie’. Here are 8 free things to do on the Gold Coast.

1. Skate, cycle, walk or run the coastline from Burleigh to Main Beach

The Gold Coast coastline is gifted with a continuous walkway alongside the ocean, shaded by trees in many parts. Put your running shoes on or grab your favourite set of wheels and enjoy a morning or afternoon of fresh ocean air, smiling faces and natural beauty.

2. Swim, surf or snorkel in the pristine Pacific Ocean

The Gold Coast has an abundance of options for swim, surf & snorkel enthusiasts. Try one of these options for a great day out in the ocean: Burleigh Heads, Tallebudgera Creek, Currumbin Creek, Kirra, Palm Beach, Coolangatta, Mermaid Beach or Main Beach.

3. Take a drive up to one of the gorgeous Hinterland National Parks

Just an hours drive inland from the coast lies the gorgeous Springbrook National Park and Lamington National Park, rich in rainforest flora & fauna. Visit Gondwana Rainforest, O’ Reilly’s Rainforest Treetop Walkway or many of the other magical walking trails and lookouts dotted across these great Australian National Parks.

4. Walk up Burleigh Heads National Park, for breathless views!

This gentle walk takes you up and around the headlands of Burleigh Heads National Park, whilst enjoying spectacular ocean and city views along a shared path. Start the walk on the ocean view side and take in the endless views of the Gold Coast as the track follows Tallebudgera Creek inland before joining the rainforest circuit. Tumgun Lookout and Jebbribillum Lookout are great for photos & views through the trees.

5. Find peace in the Currumbin rock pools

The beautiful Currumbin Rock Pools can be found a mere fifteen minute drive from Currumbin Beach. The drive there is also stunning as you meander through the lush, densely vegetated Currumbin Valley. Take a picnic to enjoy on one of the many grassy patches at the pools or along the way. Visit during the week if possible to avoid the potential for crowding by families and excited children.

6. Feed a lorikeet at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

Every day between 8-4 PM, you can enjoy the experience of feeding vibrant wild lorikeets. These colourful birds are not shy of humans and like to eat right from your hands or perch on your head and shoulders. With no entry to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary required, this amazing experience is free to watch and a gold coin donations are welcome.

7. Have a brunch picnic or sundowners on any of the stunning beaches or grassy patches

There are a plethora of perfect spots for a brunch or sundowners on the Gold Coast. Try any of the beaches on a windless day, or hop onto one of the seaside grassy patches or parks, often equipped with BBQ facilities. The Gold Coast Botanic Gardens are also a lovely escape into nature, to enjoy with friends. Point Lookout at Burleigh National Park is also an absolute treat.

8. Visit one of the many weekly markets across the GC

Gold Coast is home to a large selection of markets, and is without question one of the best things to do on the Gold Coast if you’re on a budget. For cheap street food, vintage items, free live entertainment and more try out some of these options: Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Night Market, Miami Marketta, Burleigh Farmers Market, Palm Beach Currumbin Farmers Market, Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets, the list goes on.
